every 2 net shots attempted.
Skill Cues:
Step with same leg as hitting hand Reach forward Soft touch
Demonstrate: The T will have one Ss aid in a demonstration. The T will show the skill cues in a full-part-whole fashion without hitting an actual birdy. Then the Ss will assist the demonstration by throwing a birdy over the net for the teacher to return using the forehand net shot, telling students this will be their first activity
Transition: The Ss will be asked to find a partner in under 10 seconds. The T will then quickly pair Ss who do not have a partner together. The T will ask group to get 2 rackets and one birdy and find one half of a court to use. The Ss will be reminded that there will be another group of Ss using the same court
Activity One- Hand Tossing
The T will have Ss line up facing each other on different sides of the net. One Ss will gently toss the birdy over the net, allowing the hitter to perform a forehand net shot. The hitter will be asked to start around or on the short service line to allow for the step with the same foot. The thrower will then pick up the birdy and repeat the process for a total of 5 times. After 5 times, the Ss will switch roles.
Extension up: 1. The hitting student will be asked to take 2 steps backwards to increase the range of the run. 2. The thrower will be asked to throw the birdy more aggressively and to different sides of the hitter
Extension down: 1. The thrower will stand on the same side as the hitter to ensure accuracy. 2. The hitter can take 2 steps closer to ensure contact.
Teacher positioning: The T will be positioned on the outsides of the gym, walking around giving specific feedback to the Ss.
Accommodations: Ss who are not able to do racket based activities will be asked to practice their fitness by jogging in intervals around the gym. Ss who are not able to do either of these tasks will stay with the teacher and assess the Ss performance Assessment: Teacher observation- The T will be assessing the Ss based on the skill cues given. Are the Ss stepping with the same foot? are they extending their arm and using a soft touch?
Transition: The Ss will be asked to stay where they are and watch the teacher for instructions
Activity Two- Continuous Play
The T will have Ss play a 1v1 type game in the small square they are in. The lines will be the singles line boundary on one side,

Extension up: 3. The Ss will be able to play back to the long service line and overhand shots are allowed. Students are only able to receive 2 points for an underhand shot.
Extension down: 3. The students will start with a underhand serve followed by a forehand net shot.

Activity Three- Doubles serving
Before starting this task, the T will do a very short glimpse into serving by introducing the following cues: pitch the feathers with your opposite hand underhand swing, making contact
The T will have Ss pair up with the Ss that is on the same side of the court they are in. One set of Ss will serve from the short serving line, the other set of Ss will start on the short serving line ready to return the serve. The servers will serve in the front service line for the hitters to attempt to return the serve using a forehand net shot. If the hitters are able to make the shot successfully, they get 1 point for their success for a maximum of two points for both partners. The servers will then switch and the servers will become the hitters.
Demonstration: The T will have one group of Ss demonstrate this task for the class.
Extension up: 1. The servers will serve from a farther distance 2. The returners will back up 2 steps
Extension down: 1. The server will take 2 steps forward 2. The returned will take 2 steps forward
30-40 min
Teacher positioning: The T will be positioned on the outsides of the gym, walking around giving specific feedback to the Ss.
Accommodations: Ss who are not able to do racket based activities will be asked to practice their fitness by jogging in intervals around the gym. Ss who are not able to do either of these tasks will stay with the teacher and assess the Ss performance Assessment: Teacher observation- The T will be assessing the Ss based on the skill cues given. Are the Ss stepping with the same foot? are they extending their arm and using a soft touch?
Transition: The students will be asked to stay where they are and watch the teacher for instructions
Modified Game-
The students will be asked to play a doubles game where anything goes. Students are able to hit the birdy overhand if they choose to, or they can practice the forehand net shot if they are given the chance. The students will serve from anywhere behind the short service line and will use the following scoring system: 1 point for a shot that lands behind the short service line 2 points for a shot that lands in front of the short service line (that didn't use a forehand net shot) 5 points for a forehand net shot
The team that scored the previous point will serve
40-42 min
