Conference History

This is the ninth year of the Smart and Sustainable Campuses Conference. This conference tries
to not only present a learning environment for newcomers and veterans, but also to share more
detailed approaches toward our breadth of campus sustainability challenges and opportunities.
With sustainability at the forefront of our society it is crucial to continue promoting different
efforts to ensure the preservation and conservation of our environment. Sharing our best
practices, lessons learned and most effective approaches areis critical to the success of our
institutions if they are to move along the path of becoming sustainable campuses.

Smart and Sustainable 2014

For the second year in a row, the conference is being held at a location other than University of
Maryland. This allows attendees to enjoy a variety of different venues with walkable amenities.
This years conference location is at Baltimores Inner Harbor, an extremely successful smart
growth redevelopment that has received accolades and became a destination boasting
entertainment, culture, and vibrant public spaces.

The theme of this years conference is Share Experience, Share Challenges, Share Learning,
Share U. Our community is turning into a sharing economy: swapping clothes, trading books,
rethinking vehicle ownership, and participating in MOOCS. This sharing economy is leading to
more sustainable consumption, operations, services, and lifestyles. We hope this conference
will help everyone share their ideas to continue sustainability in their campus community.
