  India’s
dismal performance in sports
other than cricket

  Lack of sports culture

  Lack of sports infrastructure

  Lack of lucrative career opportunities in sports in
India other than Cricket
  Parents stressing on academics but not encouraging
sports
  Little coordination between 3 kinds of
organizations:
  Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs
  Sports Authority of India
  Sports Federations

  Lack of funds for sports as compared to some other

countries
  Transparent,accountable
administration

  Leverage on cricket’s popularity and

infrastructure

  Use services of ex-sports person

  Give them authority and resources

  Allocation of more funds towards sports

  More accountability
  Clearly marked funds to various sports
▪  This would bring corruption in allocation of funds
and more transparency
  Objectives – results oriented
▪  This would increase accountability of
administration
  Single line of authority
▪  This would remove the ambiguity of roles
  Make available other sports facilities
within the facilities of cricket grounds
  Normally cricket players play other sports to
maintain fitness
  Cricket stadiums have resources in terms of
money and space to have few of these facilities
  Facilities shared for sport persons other than
cricket players
  Association with cricket stadiums can
encourage other sports person
  Many ex-sports persons very enthusiastic
about their sports
  Will provide these ex-sports persons more
avenues of earning along with being
associated with sports in which they
achieved glory in past
  Provide these people resources and
authority
  Their passion about their sports would keep
corruption away
  They are better people to take care of sports
than politicians
  More funds need to be allocated to improve
country’s sports infrastructure
  Small country like Cuba and economically
weaker than India supports mass free physical
education system
  Funds should be diverted through smaller
towns rather than cities
  In cities, parents are more constrained in terms
of time
  Parents in smaller towns can devote more time
to sports for their children
