Purpose:
I. To create movement to music.
2. To experience movement pathways.
TEACHING PLAN
Students should be in seated self space.
Play the Recording
Play the recording and ask the students to imagine
demonstrating macrobeat movement to the class.
Explain that later 1D the class you will select several
student leaders to perform macrobeat movement for
the remainder of the class to follow. Play the record-
ing as the students imagine.
Repeat, allowing all students to stand in self space
and practice their previously imagined macrobeat
movement.

Select a student who is moving appropriately to
become the class leader. Explain that the students
should follow the leader's movements when they
hear words being sung. When they hear only instru-
ments, they may move freely to music.
Play the recording again as the leader performs
macro beat movement and the class follows. Repeat
with several other student leaders who moved appro-
priately.
Movement Pathways
Extend the activity to include movement pathways.
Review the concept of straight and curving path-
ways. Allow selected students to demonstrate move-
ment in straight and curving pathways.
Instruct the students to move in straight pathways
when they hear words to the music and to move in
curving pathways when they do not hear words. Play
the recording to guide movement. Remind the stu-
dents that they should not talk during movement and
that they should be careful to remain in self space as
they move throughout the room.
