STOP PUNCTUATION!
Period .
1. Use period to complete the sentence as a statement
Ex. I have a big house.
2. If the last word of the sentence ends in a period, do not end the sentence with another period.
Ex. I know that M.D. She is my sister
3. Use a period after an indirect question.
Ex. He asked where the suitcase was.
Semicolon ;
1. Between two independent but related ideas.
Ex. Megana ate seven brownies; Rithik ate ten
2. There is no FANBOYS between the two independent statements.
Ex. Rithik was the best basketball player in the region; he could shoot 3 pointers with his eyes closed.
3. Add a semicolon when you see (thus, furthermore, however, moreover, therefore, or nevertheless between
two independent clauses. Place semicolon behind it and comma after it.
Ex. I like grey cats; however, I am allergic to all animals.
4. Use the semicolon to separate units of a series when one or more of the units contain commas.
Ex. This conference has people who have come from Boise, Idaho; Los Angeles, California; and Nashville, Tennessee.
5. Use the semicolon between two sentences joined by a coordinating conjunction when one or more commas
appear in the first sentence.
Ex. When I finish here, I will be glad to help you; and that is a promise I will keep.
Question Mark ?
1. Use a question mark only after a direct question.
Ex. When are we going to GAME STOP?
2. Use a question mark when a sentence is half statement and half question
EX. You do care ,dont you?
Exclamation Point !
1. Use the exclamation point to show emphasis or surprise. Do not use the exclamation point in formal business
writing.
EX. They didnt have Call of Duty IX at GAME STOP!
