Philosophy Statement
Every teacher has a different kind of philosophy. There are so many different
ideas about how teachers should teach and what they should teach. I found that every teacher is
different in my years in school. I think that how a teacher teaches and what they teach is all
based off of what kind of person they are and what they believe.
The book had a variety of different teaching philosophies. The ones that best descried my
ideas about teaching were perennialism and humanism. I agree that I do agree with both
philosophies, although, I think that everything you teach is different and the appropriate
philosophy of teaching should be used.
The philosophies in the book that best describes my personality are perennialism and
humanism. There are aspects within these philosophies that are pertinent such as the importance of
teaching students about things that are pertinent as well as centering education around the student.
According to my philosophical beliefs all schools should teach things that are important and
related to education. This would allow students to enter the world with a well-rounded education.
The perennialsm philosophy states that students should be taught things that are pertinent to everyone
everywhere. It states that these topics are best for developing students. The humanism philosophy
states that education should be centered on the student. Some of these principles of humanism are:
choice and control, self-evaluation, and teacher as a facilitator
I learn best visual learning. Subject material should be taught using lectures and student projects. This
should be partially decided by the student, due to their interests and partially by the teacher, due to her
curriculum. This is stated in humanism philosophy.
PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT Philosophy Statement 3

In conclusion, I think that humanism and perennialism are both great philosophies. I think that each of
these can be contributors in the classroom. It is important to me to teach students information they
need to know. I want students to learn things that they can apply to their personal and professional
lives. I think that both philosophies can help me accomplish this goal.
