What exactly does P.D.H.P.

E
stand for?
P.D.H.P.E stands for Personal Development,
Health and Physical Education. It is often
separated in to two sections. These are P.D.H
and P.E.
P.D.H involves learning all about the body,
the mind, personal identity, relationships and
healthy lifestyle choices.
P.E involves learning about and participating
in physical activities to get your heart racing,
your body moving and even working your
mind.

Why is P.D.H.P.E Education so
important?
P.D.H.P.E is a topic that is taught in Primary
schools to allow children to gain the ability
to not only take part in physical activity but
to learn all about their bodies and their
identity. It is important to recognise that
P.D.H.P.E is not simply a subject to promote
sports but is on that is crucial for healthy
growth and development.
What skills are taught in
P.D.H.PE?
P.D.H.P.E teaches a number of skills to benefit the
growth and development of children.
These include:
1. Problem solving techniques
2. Interaction
3. Decision making
4. Moving
5. Communicating
Each of these skills are essential for children as
they allow for development not only at a physical
level but also an emotional one. They are skills
which will be taken in to all aspects of life and not
just restricted to activities related to sport or
health.
How are these skills taught?
The skills which are taught in P.D.H.P.E are demonstrated
and highlighted through a number of topics which are part of
the P.D.H.P.E syllabus.
These include:
1. Active Lifestyle
2. Interpersonal Relationships
3. Growth and Development
4. Safe living
5. Dance
6. Gymnastics
7. Games and Sports
8. Personal Health Choices
Each of these topics comes with their own set of outcomes
and teaching strategies that create an inclusive and safe
environment for students to express their feelings and learn
about themselves. This is an essential part of developing in
to a well rounded and happy individual.
What sort of activities will 3G be
taking part in this year in P.D.H.PE
Games and Outdoor activities
including: ball games, dance activities
and athletics
Classroom activities including: health
worksheets, activities to learn about the
body and the mind and lessons to learn
about personal safety.
P.D.H.P.E skills will also be applied to
other Key Learning Areas such as Maths
in activities that involve learning about
health related topics such as heart rate
and changes in fitness levels.
