The goal of this course is to provide students with intermediate ES reading instruction.
Students focus on meaning by learning to use s!ills such as previewing and predicting to ma!e
connection to passages before beginning to read. Students learn to identify facts" use conte#t
clues to guess meaning of new vocabulary" and to pic! out main ideas in passages. Students who
successfully complete the course are able to understand intermediate te#ts from a range of
conte#ts drawn from everyday e#perience to academic sub$ects.

the most appropriate for your level.
0n order to receive a passing grade for the course" you must attend at least 4)5 of classes and a
minimum of five wor!shops. , student who has not reached 4)5 class attendance or has not
attended 5 wor!shops will have an 6 grade recorded on his or her transcript.

Students who miss a midterm or a final e#am may ta!e it with instructorGs permission in the
earning Center for a fee of H*). E#ams must be made up as soon as possible" by the deadline
set by the instructor.
