A Eulogy for Caesar
A eulogy is a speech that remembers the life of
someone who has died. After you read about
Julius Caesar, write a eulogy about Caesar
from the point of view of a Roman citizen.
You should decide whether you think Caesar
was a good leader or a bad leader and include
information from his life to prove your point.
You will write it in the format of a persuasive
essay. Be creative and informative.

The Emperors of Rome
(Disturbing)
Julian Emperors

being in politics, mother never liked him, only became emperor
b/c other brothers died,

Caligula mentally ill, bald, but hairy everywhere else on body,
made it a crime to talk about goats in his presence, committed
incest with sisters, appointed his horse as consul

Claudius lack of social skills, mentally-ill, tried to run & hide
when Caligula died, dominated by his wife, puppet emperor,

Nero probably insane, executed many, committed suicide,
abused young boys, had mother/sister killed, persecuted
Christians after the great fire in Rome
The Five Good Emperors
Nerva appointed by the senate and backed
by the army
Trajan expanded the empire
Hadrian fortified the borders
Antonius Pius maintained prosperity
Marcus Aurelius the philosopher emperor
His death marks the end of the Pax
Romana and empires decline
Illustrating Imperial Rome
As Rome moved from republic to empire, how were the everyday people
affected? What was it like to live in imperial Rome? What were the values
of the people and how was the society organized? (Pages 150-151 in orange)

men and women
children and education
slaves and captivity
gods and goddesses
food and entertainment

Your task is to create illustrations that represent each of these groups
as it relates to life in imperial Rome. You can simply draw pictures or
you can create a comic strip.
Must represent ROME. For men and women, a drawing of a group
of men beside a group of women is not enough since this lets us
know nothing about the life of men and women in imperial Rome.
