20-1 Found Poetry Assignment

You will be collecting significant pieces of text from Part II of Life of Pi (up to but not including Chapter
84, or the end of Chapter 83, Page 254). The text you collect (words, quotes, phrases, ideas) will be
presented as a Found Poem.
This Found Poem/ Poetry should express Pis experiences of and
feelings about surviving at sea.
You should include significant events/ experiences that Pi has as he survives being in a lifeboat
at sea with Richard Parker (the 450 lb Bengal Tiger with whom he is sharing the boat).
You should also include reference to Pis emotional state/ feelings about his survival
experiences.
Each selected reference should have a page number in parentheses at the end of the line [ex.
(254)] to reference where it came from.
You will also hand in a reflection about your found poem, describing your process of discovery,
selection, editing, and the insights you had about Pis journey and challenges as you read.
o What were the most valuable/ insightful pieces you gathered?
o How has this process helped you reach deeper levels of understanding about Pis
experience?
This assignment will be DUE Friday, May 23.
