Recovery
Over the course of a lifetime, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Risk factors you cannot change include: Age and gender and Family history. Your risk of developing breast cancer increases as you get older. Most advanced breast cancer cases are found in women over age 50. Men can also get breast cancer. But they are 100 times less likely than women to get breast cancer.Family history of breast cancer. You may also have a higher risk of breast cancer if you have a close relative who has had breast, uterine, ovarian, or colon cancer. About 20 - 30% of women with breast cancer have a family history of the disease . About 70% of all cancer deaths occur in low and middle-income countries. This forms in tissues of the lung, usually in the cells lining air passages. Smoking is the cause of most cases. Some treatment Options are Chemotherapy (chemo), Radiotherapy, Immunotherapy.
Recovery treatment options:
Chemotherapy (chemo) is a drug treatment aimed to cure cancer or relieve any symptoms cancer can cause. Chemotherapy either kills cancer cells or stops them dividing. Your doctor will discuss the best options with you and your family if you wish. This is administered in many ways: by injections, infusion (drip), continuous infusion (usually carried around as you go about your daily business), as tablets that you swallow, or as ointment to be applied to skin. There are various types of cancers and so naturally, chemo treatments will vary.
Radiotherapy is a way of treating or managing cancer using radiation. It works by damaging cells in the area being treated - over half of cancer patients will receive radiotherapy at some point in their treatment. Radiotherapy can be given as teletherapy (also known as external beam radiotherapy), when a beam of radiation is aimed at the area to be treated from a machine located away from the patient.
Immunotherapy is also sometimes called biologic therapy or biotherapy. It is treatment that uses certain parts of the immune system to fight diseases such as cancer. This can be done in a couple of ways: Stimulating your own immune system to work harder or smarter to attack cancer cells or Giving your immune system components, such as man-made immune system proteins, or by training the immune system to attack some part of cancer cells specifically.
Breast Cancer Run
The Breast Cancer Run is for people who believe you can fight breast cancer. Efforts have raised millions of dollars for bench top breast cancer research at the Mayo Clinic, and to fund the needs of breast cancer patients through The Donna Foundation. In 2012, the runners made it a record year. Personal fundraising efforts reached an all time high and that meant they were able to move closer to the FINISH than ever before. They are thrilled to show you in tangible ways how much your efforts are helping. Updates on research and the numbers of patients helped come frequently so that you may see how your hard work pays off. Sometimes as we get closer to the finish line, the last miles can seem long, but there is nothing like the satisfaction of crossing that line, arms raised with a heart full of love and knowing weve accomplished something great. We are getting there. With your help, we will put an end to breast cancer. Please consider becoming a fundraiser or joining a fundraising team for 2015.
