Pythagoras is known as one of the rst
mathematicians. He was born on the island
of Samos, Greece in 569 BC and lived for
about 80 years. Pythagoras founded the
Brotherhood of Pythagoreans, which
focused on the study of mathematics. He
traveled all over Egypt to learn about
mathematics. He believes that everything is
based on math, and the highest form of
mathematics is geometry. Pythagoras
contributed to help us know triangles, odd
and even numbers, triangular numbers,
angles, area, proportions, polygons, and so
much more. In all, Pythagoras was a very
smart man who helped us discover more
about math.

Explain the Pythagorean
Theorem
Pythagorean Theorem is a right triangle with the
hypotenuse equal to the sum of the legs. The theorem
is written by the equation, a
2
+ b
2
= c
2
. C
2
always is the
hypotenuse and a
2
and b
2
are always the legs. This
equation most occurs when trying to nd the missing
number for the hypotenuse. To nd the Pythagorean
theorem you have to have a step by step procedure rst
starting out with plugging in number for variables and
squaring them. During his process, Pythagoras found
out that the Pythagorean Theorem only works in
Pythagorean Triples to be true, such as numbers like 3,
4, 5; 6, 8, 10; 9, 12, 15; etc. In conclusion, the main
topic to nd about Pythagorean was because it helps us
know the side of a right triangle.
1. a=48, b=?, c=60
60
2
- 48
2
= c
2
--> 3,600-2,304=B

1,296= B

The Square root is 36 therefore b= 36
2. a=?, b=38, c= 45
45
2
- 38
2
= a
2
--> 2,025 - 1,444= a
2
581= a
2

square root is 24 therefore a=24
3.a=15, b=?, c=25
25
2
- 15
2
= b
2
--> 625-225=b
2
400=b
2

square root is 20 therefore b= 20
4. a=?, b=72, c=78
78
2
- 72
2
= a
2
78 --> 6,084 - 5,184 = a
2

900 = a
2
Square root is 30 therefore 30=a
