Constructing the Good Life: Sacred Spaces

Place: Grand Targhee Resort and its surrounding area

Grand Targhee Resort and its neighboring towns is a sacred space for many
people. Its a space that allows you to break free from the fast pace, technology
driven society we live in, and enjoy the beauty of nature. During the winter, you can
rent a cabin near the ski slopes and watch the Resort turn into a winter wonderland.
You can see animals roam freely and people going outside to just watch these
creatures in their natural habitat. During the summer, there are wonderful hiking
trails that let you explore nature completely untouched by man. If you drive down
the mountain you can rent a horse for a day and gallop through open fields. For
these reasons and more this place has been my scared space for over ten years. It is
the one place in the world that lets me be in touch with nature instead of people. Its
almost like a cleanse from the constant hustle and bustle of everyday life. When I
visit during the winter, I just ski for hours and hours on end. I am surrounded by
nothing other than the mountains, the wind, and snow. When I visit during the
summer, I get the chance to ride my horse, Dotcom, through the open fields right
outside of Jackson Hole. The best part about this place though is that it is very
difficult to receive cell reception. So no one is constantly typing away at their phones
and forgetting that interacting with people face to face is important. Grand Targhee
Resort holds a special place in my heart, and for many others as well. Its our little
piece of heaven on earth.
