Reflection on Class visit by Remon March 14, 2012

I am a lecturer who welcomes other lecturers or ACs or the Principal or Vise or

whosoever to visit my class while I am lecturing. I feel strongly that if one is not prepared
for the students one should not be lecturing. Therefor one should be able to continue
lecturing regardless of your visitor.

Peer review:

Remon Geyser visited and evaluated my performance as a lecturer while I was lecturing
the DCBM1 students on Wednesday March 14, 2012.

My observation on the class situations:

I am not a lecturer who believes in re-inventing the wheel. I will therefore NOT write
down the objectives of a lesson word by word on the white board. It eats up my time and
underestimates the students intelligence because the objectives are already in their module
guide.

I do however write down on the white board the different topics we would cover during
the session(s).
As we finish one topic I would make a tic on the board to show that we have covered it.
Being visually displayed on the white board the students could keep track of how we
progress throughout the session(s). It also allows students to ask any questions of the
topics covered.

In the beginning of the semester I requested the students to write a letter to themselves, -
why I like myself.
This letter we then use throughout to practice the manipulating of text, inserting pictures,
saving and opening documents.

This particular 3hr session we used this letter to perform the following:

Changing font and size
Shading of text
Page orientation
Page border
Margins
Tab settings
Indents
Find and replace
Paragraph numbering and bulleted text
Word Art

How do I know if learning has taken place?
The students response to questions
Outcome of quick short class tests, sometimes verbally and other times written.
Students getting a chance to teach others (demonstrating their understanding of

what they have learnt
Dividing students into small groups and requesting them to explain to one another
how to perform specific tasks.
Practical demonstrations by the students

Conclusion:

Since this is a very lively group I need to keep them busy with practical exercises.

I feel that not only the students walk away with a learning experience but I too, since I still
learn every day, how to correctly evaluate whether learning has taken place..
