A former Boy Scouts leader in Phoenix and his longtime roommate were arrested for alleged sexual abuse involving male juveniles dating back more than three decades, authorities say. Phoenix police say 65-year-old William "Bill" Challberg is facing 26 charges in the case and 51-year-old Julian Mendoza is facing 15 charges.
Police say the pair lived together at a home near 32nd Street and Campbell Avenue in Phoenix, where many of alleged offenses occurred between 1983 and 2003. Challberg and Mendoza are accused of having inappropriate contact with at least five victims who were between the ages of 9 and 16 years old at the time of the alleged offenses. Police say one of the alleged victims was a Boy Scout, while the others were neighborhood children and friends.
