6 The Eggstronaut




Purpose
A shuttle team that returns to earth after a space mission is protected by a carefully
constructed suit and the design of their space craft. In this project we will simulate
this event on a small scale. You have an eggstronaut to protect! Your traveler will
only fall a short distance, but you will have a limited amount of time and resources
at your disposal. Your eggstronaut must return to earth undamaged. Are you up to
the task?

Materials

25 Drinking Straws
10 Craft Sticks
5 Rubber bands
1 meter of 1 masking tape
1 raw chicken egg (provided by instructor)


Procedure
With a partner, you will design and create a device that will allow your eggstronaut
to survive a 15 foot drop. You are limited to the items listed above. Your team will
have one test with your vehicle and an egg prior to the judged launch. Your team
will have one class period to create device ready for the official judged launch.
