Students are welcome to do their electives, as long as they have completed their parent cores, are in
fourth year and have not been scheduled for the same time frame at another hospital. Although all
students are eligible to apply, priorit$ %ill &e 'iven to Canadian students(

Electives are granted on a first come, first serve basis and are open to all fourth year students. Students
are requested to submit a complete application package at least 16 weeks in advance of their desired
start date. Applications made with less than 16 weeks notice will be assessed on a casebycase basis.

All electives run !onday to "riday and start on the !onday, e#cept when that !onday is a noted
statutory holiday. $eneral working hours are %&'( am to )&(( pm* although it may vary, depending on
the elective. )e do not run electives durin' t*e +ont*s o, ece+&er- .ul$ and Au'ust(
All electives are for a total of four weeks +set sc*edule,, and students are eligible to be licensed for a
total of %weeks per year for all electives +year& September 1 to August '1,, by the -ollege of
.hysicians and Surgeon of /-. Students are responsi&le ,or securin' t*eir o%n *ousin'(

Students should email !arliese 0awson at sgsomvghelective1gmail.com to request an elective. She
will respond to students in a timely manner by email. Sc*edulin' is not done in person or &$
p*one(

scheduled elective. 4f a student fails to email or show up or emails at the last minute, t*e$ %ill not
&e a&le to return to Vancouver General Hospital ,or an$ ,uture rotations
