2. Analysis
Post-activity
(Each group will post their answers on the board)

Now Class, what did you do to get the product of
polynomial by a monomial?

Okay very good. That is what we called the
Distributive Property of Multiplication, and that is
one of the method or technique in multiplying
polynomials.

Now class, let us have the other way or method in
multiplying polynomials.

Multiplying Polynomials using Algebra Tiles
Example: multiply and simplify if x=2

Solution: First, lets represent as the length
and) as the width of the tiles and construct the
rectangle.
Note: in using algebra tiles, a tile on each row is
multiplied to every tile on each column, and that (-
1)(-1)=1, and (-1)=-

TIMES

(Expected Answer)
Sir, we just multiply the polynomial by a
monomial one by one or term by term.

There are twelve

tiles and four x tiles

from the square.
Area = 12(

+ 4( )
=

+ 4x
If x=2;
=

+ 4(2)
= + 8
= -48 + 8
= -56

Check: using the distributive property

= +
=

+ 4x

Who wants to try ?

3. Abstraction

Aside from using the distributive property of
multiplication. What is the other technique in
multiplying polynomials?

How do we use the algebra tiles in multiplying
polynomials?

TIMES

-1 -1 -1
-1 -1 -1

There are four and six-1 tiles
= 4(-x) + 6(-1)
=-4x +-6

The other method or technique in multiplying
polynomials is by using the algebra tiles.

By multiplying every tile on each row to every
tile on each column.

4. Application
Group Activity
(The class will work with the same group. Each group
will be given a question and the first group to finish
with the correct answer will be declared as the
winner.)

Note: The unit of measurement of area is sq m.
