Optimism vs. pessimism Accept that you can't reach perfection Have resilience Personality and Stress Vocabulary Words Ch. 4 Mental disorders - an illness that affects the mind and reduces a persons ability to function, to adjust to change, or get along with others Anxiety - fear caused by a source you cannot identify or a source that doesnt pose as much threat as you think Anxiety disorder - when anxiety persists for a long time and interferes with daily living Phobia - anxiety that is related to a specific situation or object Mood disorder - experience extreme emotions that make it difficult to function well in their daily lives Depression - an emotional state in which a person feels extremely sad and hopeless Eating disorder - a mental disorder that reveals itself through abnormal behaviors related to food Anorexia nervosa - a person doesnt eat enough food to maintain a healthy body weight Bulimia - people go on uncontrollable eating binges followed by purging, or removing, the food from their bodies Clinical depression - may feel sad and hopeless for months Suicide - the intentional killing of oneself Vocabulary Words continued...
