Topic: What do the A’immah do when they Are asked
a Question which they do not know the Answer to?

It has been narrated in a Øad¢th found in Bi¶°r al-Anw°r1 that the following question was asked to Im°m Ja`far
ibn Mu¶ammad as-Æ°diq (prayers be upon him) from Øamr°n who narrated from some companions.

Øamran said, “I asked Ab° `Abdill°h (prayers be upon him): “May I be sacrificed for you! Is it possible that you
are asked concerning something that you do not have the knowledge to reply to?”

He (Im°m Ja`far ibn Mu¶ammad as-Æ°diq, prayers be upon him) replied, “Sometimes it is possible that this
happens.”

The narrator of the Øad¢th then said, “I asked him, ‘so then what do you do?’”

The Im°m (prayers be upon him) said to him: “The R£¶ al-Qudus (Holy Spirit) gives us (the answer) through
inspiration.”
