Seminar for Public Administration PUA 550 Andrees Rivers McDaniel College Summer 2014
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 2
Executive Summary The following portfolio is a culmination of my accomplishments while matriculating in the Masters of Public Administration program with a concentration in Human Resource Management formerly known as a program with a Higher Education Administration concentration at McDaniel College. In pursuit of this degree, I have compiled a portfolio primarily to offer readers a view of my comprehension and interpretation of important Executive Core Qualifications. Through this review of completed course and practical work within the portfolio, one can discovered my commitment to become an effective leader within the field of Higher Education Administration, specifically, Student Affairs. This commitment is demonstrated through four artifacts of work completed in both my Graduate studies and professional role in addition to a listing of personal philosophy, values and goals. The Executive Core Qualifications inspire each component submitted within this portfolio of work (OPM.GOV, n.d.). Each qualifier has significant bearing on my personal, academic and ultimately professional success in this field. Furthermore, it is essential to master/comprehend each ECQ characteristic/skill as these illustrate necessary components required to master in order to become a successful leader within any professional role. The three ECQs that I chose to focus on within this portfolio include (OPM.GOV, n.d.): ECQ 1: Leading Change which focuses on creativity, innovation, external awareness, flexibility, resilience, strategy and vision (OPM.GOV, n.d.). ECQ 2: Leading People which focuses on conflict management, leveraging diversity, developing others and team building (OPM.GOV, n.d.). ECQ 5: Building Coalitions focuses on partnership, being politically savvy and mastering persuasion/negotiation skills (OPM.GOV, n.d.). EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 3
My portfolio will offer readers an in depth look into innovative concepts completed to date within my course work and professional role. Included are two artifacts which are assignments completed in courses taken within this Graduate program, in addition to two artifacts which demonstrate more of my practical side of work. The two assignments include traditional papers which focus on an Organizational Analysis and a Team Building project. In addition, two artifacts include a presentation, which I co-facilitated and presented to educators in my field, as well as, an analysis of a professional initiative which I supervised. Each artifact and component included in the portfolio is inspired by one of the three selected ECQs and objectives covered in course work throughout the program. I now invite you to review my attached portfolio in detail. In examination of the document, you will be engrossed in a body of work traveling through the exciting and challenging world of a Student Affairs practitioner.
