GRADE 5 CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT POLICY

Dear Parents/Guardians,
It is our philosophy that positive behavior and rewarding social interactions are
critical for authentic learning to take place within the classroom. Students must feel
physically and emotionally safe in order to experience personal and academic growth.
Therefore, we are sharing our 5
th
Grade classroom management plan so that you are
aware of the expectations set forth for your child.

RULES AND ROUTINES
From the first day of school, we begin building routines with students. These routines
are then reinforced continuously throughout the year. During the first week of school
we also establish rules with the students and have rich discussions with the students
about what each rule means. These rules will also encompass and include the Seven
Habits of Highly Effective People, which is a school wide focus. With this in mind, the
following are the rules that we have for our classrooms:
1. Be responsiblebe proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first
2. Be respectfulthink win win
3. Be honestseek first to understand, then to be understood
4. Be cooperativesynergize
5. Be your bestsharpen the saw, be an example, be a leader
We have found the presence of clearly defined rules and routines eliminate most
behavior problems.

DISCIPLINE
Should your child break any of the rules, the following disciplinary action will take place:
1
st
OffenseVerbal Warning
2
nd
OffenseSeparation: Child will be removed from the group or activity and be
working alone on the observation deck. If their behavior improves, he/she will
be invited to rejoin the class.
3
rd
OffenseRefocus Station: Child will be removed and sent to fill out a refocus
form and reflect on their behavior. This refocus form will be sent home to be
signed by parents.
4
th
Offense: Child will owe in class recess detention. Parents will be called. Please
note that we will call home with the child present. We will then give time for you
to counsel with your child.
5
th
Offense: Child will be sent to principal.
*Please note that for serious infractions (i.e. violence towards another student), your
child will be immediately sent to the office.

POSITIVE RECOGNITION
Our goal is to have students receive positive recognition on a regular basis and we
will do my best to make sure that their strong choices and hard work are honored in the
following ways:
1. Personal satisfaction that they are doing a job well done.
2. Praise
3. Positive notes sent home.
4. Positive phone calls home.
5. Lunch bunch invitations.

Please take the time to review this classroom management plan with your child
and feel free to contact us should you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for
your support on this matter.

Sincerely,

Grade 5 Teachers
