Reflection Essay
Looking back when I first started this course for Composition 2, I was very nervous.
Gazing at all of the assignments and knowing that there was a short amount of time to complete
it all was a bit overwhelming at first. Fortunately, as I got into this class, it started to become
painless. I think that the way the course is laid out really helped me to stay on track with the
assignments. I can tell that I have grown as a writer after this course as I have faced the
challenges this course held by making my e-portfolio, organizing my time, and learning to write
a research paper.
To begin with, I feel that creating the e-portfolio really helped me learn how to write and
share with others what I have learned. I think that the portfolio is a way to communicate and
share who I am with my fellow peers. The portfolio is a way to organize and demonstrate my
growth as a writer and student. Not to mention, it was fun to create my own website.
In addition, another challenge that I faced in this course was organizing my time. I found
that trying to juggle motherhood, family life, work, and school is difficult, so time management
is very important in the success of this class. I was very nervous taking a summer class because I
knew that summer courses have more assignments to complete in less time, but I was determined
to take on that challenge. After looking over the course schedule that the professor made for this
course, my nerves seemed to decrease because the schedule made the class seem a lot more
manageable.
Finally, learning how to research and write a long paper was the biggest challenge that
has made me grow as a writer and a student. I have never had to research and write a paper to the
extent that I did in this class. However, I am glad that I did, because I think that the material and
skills will help me in my future classes that I am going to take for my AA and BSBA (Bachelor
of Science in Business Administration) degrees. Writing the annotated bibliographies and the
outline was very helpful with the research process. Also, the team assignment was helpful too. I
think that working on the team annotated bibliographies really helped me to get into the process
of the annotated bibliographies.
Even though I am glad I learned many new skills that have improved my writing, I am
glad that this course is near the end. I am excited to complete my second semester of college so
that I can move on to my third semester. I feel that this composition 2 course has really helped
me with my writing and research skills. I feel that I have improved myself through my e-
portfolio, my time management, and my research writing.
