Eighth Grade Packet


Requirements for 8
th
Grade Promotion
Eighth Grade Constitution Test & Project
All 8
th
grade students are required to take and pass the Constitution test. A minimum score of
70% is required to pass the test. One retake is allowed with an averaging of both grades for a
final score.
Students must also complete the following project based on the Constitution:
Project Must Do's:
1. Understanding the US Constitution (given in class) must be completed in its entirety.
2. Student must define each of the first 10 amendments to the Constitution (the Bill of
Rights) in his/her own words.
3. Student must give real-life examples (or find articles) of at least eight of the
amendments in the Bill of Rights.
4. Student must present their project in a thoughtful and creative way (poster,
PowerPoint, prezi, etc.)
Option for Extra Credit:
Student writes a one-page essay that shows how the Bill of Rights relates to real life.
All 10 Amendments have an example.
Student presents his/her project to the entire class.










Eighth Grade Speeches
Each 8
th
grade student is required to deliver the following speeches:
Narrative presentation
Oral response to literature
Research presentation
Persuasive presentation
Recitation of poetry
Analysis of an oral speech
Each of these types of oral presentations will be done in class, however two of these speeches
must be formally presented using a speech rubric given in class.

Eighth Grade Research Paper
The research paper is an extensive research assignment. Each student will follow the format
explained in class to complete it. The paper should be between 1500 and 2000 words (about
6-8 typed pages) and follow the MLA style (instructions given in class). Students may choose
their own topics, but must have approval from Mrs. Johnson.

Community Service
Key Academy requires that each eighth grade student complete at least 20 hours of community
service. The attached log must be filled out, signed, and turned in by May 14, 2015.

Essay
Each eighth grade student must attach a one hundred word essay to his/her promotion
application. In this essay, students will write about the past year and their accomplishments
and goals for the future. This essay must either be typed or written in the students best
handwriting. All essays and promotion applications must be turned in no later than May 14,
2015.
