8th grade Common Core Syllabus Ms.

This school year will be focused on building off your previous
knowledge and diving into the new common core mathematics
standards and practices. We will focus on five critical areas:

1. Number System
2. Expressions and Equations
3. Functions
4. Geometry
5. Statistics and Probability
Required Materials:
1. 1 Composition Notebook (strictly for math class)
2. 1 Pocket Folder
3. 1 Ruler
4. 1 Dry Erase Marker (turned in to teacher)
5. Writing Utensils (pencils, personal sharpener, erasers,
highlighter)
6. Color Pencils
Classroom Behavioral Expectations:
1. Be on time & prepared
2. Raise your hand before speaking or leaving your seat
3. Keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself
4. No negative language
5. Keep your classroom clean
6. Respect your Teacher & Classmates
7. Keep a positive attitude!
Consequences: Consequences will occur when any of the class
expectations are broken
1. Verbal warning
2. Written Reflection (at the reflection table) & meeting
with teacher after class.
3. Contact parents
4. Further consequences include the requirement of
parent presence in class and/or referral to the
Principals office.
Homework Policy:
Homework is given every Monday. Students must show their
work and answer in complete sentences to receive full credit.
Teacher will stamp homework every day and collect the work
every Friday.

Your homework (and all turned work) should have a heading
(Name, Date, Period) and a title for full credit. Messy
homework will not be given credit. Teacher will only give credit
to stamped homework.

On Friday turn in homework your class basket. Your lowest 3
homeworks will be dropped from your gradebook per semester.
Absent Policy:
When you are absent, you have two days to make up missing
work including homework.

It will be your responsibility to catch up and find your missing
assignments. I will keep an absent file where you can find your
missing work and graded work.

Speak to Ms. Aguiniga about missed assessments.
Grading Policy:
Classwork 25% Quizzes 15%
Homework 10% Test 30%
Do Now/ Exit Slip 10%
Projects/Participation 10%

*Weekly short quizzes will be given. You cannot make up quizzes.
Lowest 2 scores will be dropped.
* Test will be given after each unit. You can make-up test until you
reach mastery.
**You cannot make up Do Nows/Exit Slips, Classwork, or Homework.
Bathroom Policy:
At the beginning of each semester you will be given a bathroom
chart that allows you to go to the bathroom twice for the
semester. Teacher will stamp (or hole punch) card.

If you do not use the bathroom passes points will be added to
your grade when you turn in a clean bathroom card.

Hello Parents and Guardians!

I wanted to send you this letter to introduce myself as your students mathematics teacher for this 2014-
2015 school year. I am very excited for this school year and I am looking forward to working with you to uphold
high expectations for your child. I hope that we can remain in contact so that you can be updated of your childs
performance in my classroom. Below you will find my contact information as well as our class website where I will
post homework, extra resources for students who need extra help amongst other important information. Please
hold your child responsible for actively completing their work and using available resources to help them be
successful. Furthermore, some materials remain in constant need in our classroom. We would greatly appreciate
any donations from you when able. Some materials needed : Kleenex tissues, Clorox wipes, dry erase markers,
line paper, pencils, and small sharpeners. Thank you in advance for your support. Please fill out and cut bottom
portion for your child to turn in to me.

Queria mandar esta carta para introducirme como la maestra de matemticas de su hijo/a. Estoy muy
emocionada por los logros que har su hijo/a. Para poder garantizarle xito a su hijo/a, quisiera que nosotros
mantengamos contacto. Hay muchos beneficios de mantener comunicacin con las maestras(os) de su hijo/a
como hacerles saber a su hijo/a que tiene mucha gente que se preocupa por el/ella y que quiere mirarlos siempre
en xito. Abajo he puesto mi informacion para que usted siempre pueda comunicarse conmigo. Tambien pondre
la pagina donde pondre toda la informacin de nuestra clase de matemticas en el internet. Ahi tambien pondre
ayuda extra para su hijo/a cuando se sienta confundido(a). Tambien tomo esta oportunidad para pedirles de sus
donaciones. En nuestra clase necesitamos toallitas de kleenex, toallitas de clorox, marcadores de pizarron, papel,
lapizes y sacapuntas. Gracias por su ayuda. Por Favor llene y corte la ultima porcion para que su hijo/a me la
entregue.
