HISTORY

The word magic came from the Greek word mageia. Greeks
and Persians had been at war and the Persian priests, also known as magosh in
Persian, came to be known as Magoi in Greek they were also known as mageia and
then magika, they all were terms of an unorthodox or illegitimate ritual practice.
There were many performances of magic throughout history.
[3]
for example the
ancient deceptions known as the Trojan Horse or for cheating in money games.
They were also used by the practitioners of various religions and Cults in ancient
times onwards to frighten uneducated people into obedience or turn them into
adherents. However, the profession of the illusionists, magicians gained strength
only in the 18th century, and has enjoyed several popular vogues since.
In 1584, A Author by the name of Reginald scot published a book named The
Discovery of Witchcraft. It was written to show that witches did not exist, and
there was no such thing as witchcraft by telling how these tricks and illusions were
performed. The book is the first textbook about conjuring (A type of witchcraft or
illusion). All obtainable copies were burned on the accession of King James 1 in
1603 and those remaining are now rare. It began to reappear in print in 1651.
Robert Houdin was the, the first modern magician

As a form of entertainment, magic easily moved from theatrical venues to
television specials, which opened up new opportunities for deceptions, and brought
stage magic to huge audiences. Famous magicians of the 20th century
included Okito, Alexander,Harry blackstone, Howard Thurston,Thedore anneman
, Cardini, Joseph Dunniger, Dai Vernon, John Scarne, Tommy Wonder, Siegfried
and roy, and Doug Henning. Popular 20th- and 21st-century magicians
includeDavid Copperfied, Lance Burton, James Randi, Penn And Teller, David
blaine, Criss Angel and Hanks Clok. Well known women would include Dell o
Dell and Dorothy dietrich. Most TV magicians perform before a live audience,
who provide the remote viewer with a reassurance that the illusions are not
obtained with post-production Vissual effects.
Many of the principles of stage magic are old. There is an expression, "it's all done
with smoke and mirrors", used to explain something baffling, but effects seldom
use mirrors today, due to the amount of installation work

partnership with Cirque du Soleil and the Luxor's parent company, MGM Mirage
financed the show with $100 million.
After several delays, the show was set for a gala opening on October 31, 2008,
with preview shows in late September. The initial preview was not well received,
with thoroughly negative audience reactions. The show opened to equally harsh
reviews which cited a lack of the magic Angel is known for, as well as a confusing
and uninteresting theme. Reviewers felt neither Angel nor Cirque du Soleil were
able to perform to their capabilities.
In April 2009, Angel ended a performance of Believe by "hurling obscene insults"
at blogger Perez Hilton, an audience member. Hilton reportedly had texted to his
fans during the performance that the show was "unbelievably BAD" and that he'd
"rather be getting a root canal", and word had gotten back to Angel by the end of
the performance. Cirque du Soleil later apologized to Hilton for Angel's remarks.
In 2010 the Las Vegas Sun critic John Katsilometes, after being unimpressed by
the initial show, said Believe had improved by reducing the narrative elements and
focusing on the magic. In 2011 the Toronto Star wrote: The show is easily the
most exciting thing now on stage in Vegas!

David blaine.
David Blaine made a tape of a magic performance and sent it to ABC, where the
response was tremendous. His first special,David Blaine: Street Magic, was a
ratings hit in 1997. David Blaine: Magic Man followed two years later. In 1999,
Blaine performed his first endurance stunt, and in 2000, he followed with "Frozen
in Time" in which he was frozen into a block of ice for 72 hours.
CONTENTS
Early Life
Magician David Blaine was born on April 4, 1973, to a single mother in Brooklyn,
New York. A street performer provided Blaine's introduction to magic, as the
curious 4-year-old waited for a subway train. Magic was not his only interest,
however, and Blaine went on to attend the Neighborhood Playhouse drama school
and appeared in several TV commercials and soap operas. It was during this time
that his ability to levitate off of the ground surfaced and, at the urging of his
personal physician, Blaine underwent a thorough examination.
Street Magic
When Blaine was 21, his mother was stricken with cancer and passed away in
1994. Though grief-stricken, he continued to perform and make a name for himself
at celebrity functions by doing magic tricks for famous people, such as Mike
Tyson, Al Pacino and David Geffen.
.
Endurance Stunts
In 1999, Blaine performed his first endurance stunt: submerging himself in 4,000
pounds of water for over one week. In 2000, he followed with "Frozen in Time" in
which he was frozen into a block of ice for 72 hours. Two years later, he stood on a
100-foot pillar for 35 hours in "Vertigo."
Unfortunately, there were more skeptics than supporters during 2003's "Above the
Below," which involved Blaine living in a glass box suspended by the River
Thames in London for 44 days, without food. The stunt gained worldwide media
coverage, and thousands gathered at the site near Tower Bridge to witness his
release.
In New York in 2006, his "human aquarium" stunt involved submersion in a water-
filled sphere for seven days, receiving air and food through tubes. In a dramatic
finale, he failed in his attempt to break the world record for holding breath under
water, while simultaneously escaping heavy chains.
