CoursePhilosophyandGoals
Im excited to welcome you to German 2/3. The overarching
intent of German 2/3 is for you to deepen your understanding of
the German language and the different German speaking cultures.

This year in German 2/3, you will be held accountable for a
routine consisting of homework, vocabulary, basic grammar skills,
and smaller projects.

ClassroomExpectations
I firmly believe that we learn best in a community of peers that
help and support each other. To create a safe classroom that promotes active learning and allows
you to share your thoughts and insights with your peers, the following classroom rules will be
implemented:

Be Respectful
Be Responsible
Do Your Personal Best!

Students are expected to adhere to the School Policies and Procedures as they are outlined in the
Student Planner.

Classroompolicies
Arrive to class on time with all materials and be ready to learn.
Listen to and follow instructions the first time they are given.
Vulgar/offensive language, including name-calling, will not be tolerated.
When absent, it is your responsibility to pick up any assignments, notes, handouts, etc. I
suggest that every student finds one or more study partners who will inform him/her of
missed work and who will share notes.
The use of cell phones and all electronic devices is not allowed in class. Please turn off the
sound (including vibrate) to all devices before entering the classroom. If you are caught
using your cell phone during class time without permission, the return of your electronic

device could take as long as 24 hours. Please
respect the usage rule for cell phones. The
rule can be found in the Copper Hills High
Student Planner and online.

Inclasswork
Each day of class you will have the opportunity to
earn 10 points for your work in class. This will
include completing the self-start activity at the beginning of each class and fully participating in
all the learning activities that are assigned for the day. If you are in class on time, participating,
and behaving according to the classroom expectations, you will receive full participation points
for the day. If you come late, dont do the assigned work or violate the classroom expectations,
you may lose in-class work points.

LearningActivities
Daily assignments may consist of class discussions, group work, projects, reading, writing, short
lectures, presentations, and analysis of video segments. My goal is to create a student-centered
classroom rather than teacher-directed. This, however, places responsibility on you to be active
and accountable for your own learning.

**While I will never show an entire full-length feature film, sometimes I will use excerpts from
historical documentaries and/or feature films that may be rated PG and PG-13. The clips chosen
will be relevant to the class and will not contain any graphic material, but some mild violence
and language may be expected on rare occasions. If you have any concerns with that, your
parents can contact me and I will be happy to make accommodations for individual students.

HomeworkAssignments
To help you to get a deeper understanding of the material you will regularly get homework
assignments that should not take you longer than 30 minutes to complete. This may be a reading
assignment or smaller activities to help you engage with the subject. Homework will be checked
and graded in class. If you miss your homework assignment you will lose points and you will have
to make-up the assignment for next period.

MaterialsNeeded
You will need a notebook for this class and a folder to keep your assignments and
homework organized.
Blue or black pen
No. 2 pencils
Colored pen or pencil for grading
CHHS Planner: Given to students at Sophomore Orientation (to keep track of homework
and quizzes)

Grading
Points will be earned from four sources: in-class work and learning activities, notebooks and
homework, term projects, and tests/quizzes. The scores will equate to a percentage and grade. A
mid-term report and final report will be given each term. The grading scale is as follows:
$
The Percentages required for:

A (93-100) A- (92-90)
B+ (89-87) B (86-83) B- (82-80)
C+ (79-77) C (76-73) C- (72-70)
D+ (69-67) D (66-63) D- (62-60)
F (below 60)

Quizzes and Tests
Only 1 retake permitted for each quiz or test.
Retakes for quizzes and test will be given before or after school
Retakes must be taken within five (5) school days of actual quiz or test date. If you do
not come in within five school days, you will earn a 0 on the quiz or test.

AbsentandLateWorkPolicy
Absent work will be accepted if the absence is excused. Absent work must be made up within
five school days after returning to school. The best time to pick up absent work is before
or after school.
Students who would like to turn in late work must come in before or after school and talk with
me. Acceptance of late work will be based on my discretion and your circumstances. Honesty is
truly the best policy. Absent and late work will not be accepted the last week of each
quarter. DO NOT turn in excused absent or late work to a substitute teacher. Wait until I
return to school to turn in work.

Plagiarism (Borrowing anothers works, ideas, and concepts without citing them; viewed as a
dishonest act and academic theft.)

First offense: Teaching moment with student, Parent call, Administrator
notified, and zero on assignment(s).
Second offense: Zero on assignment(s), Administrator meeting with parent, student, and
teacher, and possible failure for the quarter.
Third offense: Zero on assignment(s), Administrator meeting, failure for the quarter, and
possible school suspension.

AttendancePolicy
CHHS believes that students, parents, and school personnel should work collaboratively in an
effort to improve school attendance. The objectives of the attendance policy are 1) to create an
environment conducive to the promotion of student learning, 2) to encourage personal
accountability, and 3) to prepare students for the world of work. The attendance policy for
CHHS can be obtained online at
http://copperhillshigh.org/student-handbook/ .
