Afifah likes to do puzzles.

She likes a lot of things, she is now settled well in

An-Nur and very confident about choosing activities freely. She is a very
clever girl. She learns a lot watching others doing it and listening to
teachers. She also likes to explore the environment and involved herself
with all the learning experiences available in our centre. But every morning
when she arrives at An-Nur the first activity she would choose is a puzzle
specially the Arabic alphabet puzzle. Afifah and Athifah both have a special
fascination about this puzzle. They both learned Arabic alphabets in our
Islamic group time where children sing the alphabet song everyday. She can
sing the whole song and recognizes most of the letters.
We all know how much children enjoy puzzles, but most of us dont
appreciate that puzzles has hidden potential as an educational tool. The
attraction of filling the pieces of a puzzle into the insets on their frames lies
in the process of manipulating an object in all direction and finally
discovering the one and only correct way that it will fit. Children get
enormous satisfaction of solving a puzzle.

My Favoriate Puzzle - Afifah
Puzzles and jigsaws are an
important part of early childhood
curriculum as they help develop
many skills. Through using jigsaws
and puzzles children develop hand
eye co-ordination, they explore
shapes, patterns, sequences,
colours, seriation etc. They develop
early math concepts such as
problem solving. They also develop
memory and concentration.
To extend Afifahs interest
we will make sure to
provide a wide range of
jigsaws and puzzles
including floor puzzles and
more challenging ones.
