Classroom observation

The class started with a recent news item, relevant to the class, on Hepatitis C medication.
Logistics for an upcoming poster session and the final exam were discussed. Some logistics were
also included at the end of class, with background provided on upcoming journal club topic.
The class topic was STDs (notes attached). The material was covered clearly, and in appropriate
detail for an upper-level majors course. Slides struck an appropriate balance between graphics
and words. (It was mentioned that video material would be incorporated in the next class.)
Students were generally interested in and involved with the material responses to prompts
were always forthcoming, and there were many student-generated questions. Some students
seemed to be talking among themselves during the class, but they did participate in answering
and asking questions. Attendance was (close to?) 100%. Overall, I think this was a successful
class.
