WELCOME BACK!
Welcome to our first newsletter of the year!
I am so excited to have your child in our
classroom family this year. We have already
completed our second week of school and
students are doing well with classroom
procedures and routines.

EMAIL ADDRESS
I will be sending this newsletter both
digitally and on paper this week only, next
week I will begin emailing the newsletter. If
you do not receive the email I send out with
the newsletter please send in your email
ASAP so I can get you on my contact list.
Also, please let me know if you do not have
access to email and I will be sure to send
home a paper copy in your childs Friday
folder.

MATH
Our first Math unit is Place Value of
whole numbers. This week, we worked on
understanding the value of each digit in a
number. Next week we will be discussing the
standard form (45,000) word form (forty five
thousand) and expanded form
(40,000+5,000).
This week we also spent some time
with multiplication facts. It seems many
students are a bit rusty and could use some
extra practice. The site below is just one way
for students to practice their multiplication
facts at home. Quiz your child often.
Multiplication facts are huge in fourth grade
especially when we cover long division and
fractions.

HOMEWORK
Homework will be delivered in about
the same format every week. Please be sure to
look at your child's agenda that will go home
daily for any changes. Student agendas should
be signed or initialed by parents daily. (The
agenda is also a great way for us to
communicate, please feel free to comment on
your child's agenda.)
Most weeks we will have both reading
and spelling homework. Next week the
spelling journal and the reading log directions
can be found under both the homework and
daily/weekly homework tabs on my webpage.
I will be handing these out on
Monday. Although the specific pages of
homework will change each week, math
homework will follow the same routine
(below) each week.

Monday Math Facts: Problems that students
should be able to quickly solve, using their
math fact knowledge. Sometimes this will
also be computation (multi-digit
multiplication, etc.)

Tuesday Test Prep : 4-5 multiple choice
problems on a topic that we are struggling on,
or maybe just need a bit more practice.

Wednesday Word Problems: Multi-step,
multi-operational

Throwback Thursday: A concept that we have
covered earlier in the year that we are
revisiting for review

READING
Next week we will be working on
reading strategies using a website called Into
the book. We started some of the lessons this
week. If your child would like to practice any
of the strategies we have already learned the
website is www.reading.ecb.org.
