INSTRUCTIONS
Write an essay on at least ONE written text that you have studied, in response to ONE
of the statements below:
If you choose to write about more than one text, the texts may be:
the same type (eg two poems)
a combination of different types (intertextual studies - eg a poem and a short story).
After you have chosen the question, complete the box at the top of page 3. You may use
the space on page 3 to map or plan your ideas.
WRITTEN TEXTS
Discuss the extent to which you agree with your chosen statement.
Respond critically to the statement by making a close analysis of the text(s).
STATEMENTS (Choose ONE):
1. Written texts come alive only when readers interpret them.
2. Written texts focus on troublesome behaviour so that we can be warned.
3. Whatever the story, we must have a distinct sense of the narrative voice.
4. A writers task is to create a metaphorical mirror of society.
