SONNETS TO GARDENER

the definitions of didactic literature and traditional literature are as follows: Didactic literature is the
type of literature that implies idealistic perspectives, such as that of heroism, and implications of moral
lessons and touching manners. Traditional literature is however, different; it is a type of literature that
originated through oral recitation and had no identifiable author.
The social function of these two types of literature approaches their functions in different ways. Didactic
literature is rather idealistic; it continually implies optimistic images. Those types of poems are usually
used to show people the idealistic side of life, and aimed to acclaim good morals of society. An example
of didactic literature in Tarrosa-Subidos Sonnet to a Gardener: II The speaker advocates the gardener
as though the speaker is praying to the one being advocated; in fact, the gardener becomes somewhat
of a god to the speaker: I come, forsaking prayr and altar-flame. Traditional literature is towards the
concept of impromptu. The social function of traditional literature is to bring an audience towards the
storyteller. Traditional literature can be changed things can be added or taken away. The Sonnet
also shows a hint of traditional literature, due to the fact that it is a sonnet.
