Biological Weathering

Physical:
Animals and plants can wear away the rocks. An example of
this is, burrowing animals such as rabbits can burrow into a
crack in the rock for protection, making it bigger and
splitting the rock.
Weeds sometimes grow in the cracks in the pavement or
bushes and trees can grow from cracks in the walls because
plant roots can grow in open cracks and make them bigger.
Eventually pieces of rock fall off.
Biological Weathering
Chemical:
Decay of leaves causes rain to turn acidic as it runs
down the building which causes the rocks to erode. Acid
rain also has this effect due to fossil fuels emitting
carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide into the air to
dissolve in the rain. The acids react with the rock to
form new substances which are washed and crumbled
away easily
Some rocks are easily weathered such as limestone and
chalk however rocks such as granite are harder to
weather by acids.
