FUTURE
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
TO KNOW THAT WE DESIGN THINGS FOR DIFFERENT PURPOSES AND USERS
TO EVALUATE PRODUCTS AND IDENTIY IDEAS TO USE IN OUR OWN WORK
TO MAKE LABELLED DIAGRAMS FROM DIFFERENT VIEWS SHOWING SPECIFIC FEATURES
DESIGN BRIEF
YOUR TASK IS TO DESIGN AND CONSTRUCT A PROTOTYPE OF HOLY NAME
SCHOOL FOR THE YEAR 2089
Student Name:
Grade:
Investigating:
Analysing the
situation
Considerations
What are some
things that have
changed at Holy
Name school
over time?
What will be
important in a
school of the
future?
Think about
technology,
space,
enrolments etc.
.With the advanced technology, no one writes with hand but
types instead
.Overgrowing population means more children and classrooms.
.We should have labs for science and experiments.
.Children might not be able to go outside due to the eventual
break in the Ozone Layer.
.Back then it was just blackboard and chalk that didnt
require energy but now we do.(Energy running out)
.During making the school they only thought about making
classrooms and a church.
Write a brief
Write a short
statement
giving the
general outline
of the problem
to be solved.
Research the
problem
Think about
ways in which
your
considerations
can be
solved/accommo
dated for. E.g.
If you decide
that your school
needs space for
increasing
numbers, what
are some ways
in which you can
create space?
.For more space we could buy houses near the school. Theres
a part that is on the Robb st side of the school. We might
also buy instead the part below the basketball courts and
after school care.
.Because of construction problems (time, money, interference
and distractions) we should build walls using the panels in
front of the office.
Designing:
Write a
specification
This detailed
description of
the problem
spells out what
the design must
achieve and what
limitations will
affect the final
solution.
.We need to build a successful school that kids will learn and
have fun. Based on what Diamonds said they like freedom
and choice but it was too noisy. Glass walls meant they could
get ideas from different groups. But even though the roof
made the sound more muffled it was still too noisy.
Because 1 wall wasnt enough to block sound out, sound just
travelled through around the glass walls.
.ground to play needs to be more big so then kids dont bump
into each other every 2 seconds. Less safe rules mean kids
will probably be safer.
Work out
possible
solutions
Combine the
ideas from
your
investigation
to suggest
several
possible design
solutions.
Sketch several
possibilities on
paper.
.To block out sound we could have a sound blocker that
actually exists. You can choose sounds to let in and out.
.We can dedicate areas to play and work.
Some of the houses we could buy and use them as the play
area.
.The land we have now will be dedicated to learning
.We are still a catholic school so we need to maybe rebuild
and renovate the church.
Select a preferred solution
Producing:
Prepare
working
drawings and
construct a
prototype.
Draw, to scale,
detailed plans
of your new
school.

Question 2:
Question 3:
Question 4:
Modifying:
List and justify any modifications that you have made.
Write a Report:
Write a report that explains the process you followed to complete your
future school design. Reflect upon all the stages in the process and
justify your work. Discuss the investigating, planning, designing,
evaluating and modifying of your design.
