Santorini is an archipelago of volcanic islands situated in southern Aegean Sea,

Greece. The largest island, Thera, has developed over the years as the most
popular tourist destination in Greece. It offers breath-taking views of the Aegean
Sea and the geological caldera that separates the islands from one another. The
biggest attraction of Santorini is the scenery itself. The unique location of the
islands offers magnificent views of the archipelago, unrivaled by any other
location across the world.

Santorini has a lot of history to offer to tourists. The island is whitewashed
with a sea of white and blue, a colour scheme similar to the ones found across the
Cyclades. The island also abounds with many archeological and historical landmarks
including small village of Mesa Gonia, which contains the remains of the ruins
caused by the 1956 earthquake and Pyrgos with its Byzantine churches and the
remains of a Venetian castle. The historical tour is not complete without a visit
to the Archeological Museum and the Museum of Prehistoric Thera at Fira. The
region is also known for its agricultural produce especially tomatoes and its
world famous vine, Vinsanto, made from the indigenous grapes grown in Santorini.

For those envying a beach holiday, Santorini also offers many beach destinations
including the famous Red Beach and the black-pebbled beaches at Perissa and
Kamari. The accommodations near beaches are generally cheaper than other Greek
islands and comparatively cheaper than those located at the cliffs of Imerovigli,
Oia, or Fira. The beaches are to soak in the morning sun while the cliffs are for
the beautiful sunset. In fact, the sunset from Oia is considered as one of the
most beautiful sunsets anywhere in the world.

Scenery aplenty, Santorini also offers the quintessential Greek holiday. Those
looking to soak in the culture may visit the island during the off-season, in
spring or autumn. In fact, this is when you will enjoy quiet and picturesque
Santorini, away from the big summer crowds.
