BACK TO THE

FUTURE
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

TO KNOW THAT WE DESIGN THINGS FOR DIFFERENT PURPOSES AND USERS
TO EVALUATE PRODUCTS AND IDENTIY IDEAS TO USE IN OUR OWN WORK
TO MAKE LABELLED DIAGRAMS FROM DIFFERENT VIEWS SHOWING SPECIFIC FEATURES
DESIGN BRIEF
YOUR TASK IS TO DESIGN AND CONSTRUCT A PROTOTYPE OF HOLY NAME
SCHOOL FOR THE YEAR 2089
Student Name: Alexia and Josephine

Grade: 6L

Investigating:

Analysing the
situation

Considerations
What are some things
that have changed at
Holy Name school
over time? What will
be important in a
school of the future?
Think about
technology, space,
enrolments etc.
Class numbers Extensions
Furniture Clubs Houses
Teaching Styles Sporting Equipment
Interior changes Exterior Changes

Modern Technology/up to date
Fast transportations between rooms/campuses
Health Centre and Kindergarten
More room/extensions
Junior and Senior campuses
An environmentally friendly school
Less teachers compared to students

Write a brief
Write a short
statement giving the
For our idea of Holy Name placed in the
future of 2089, we believe that obesity
and Global warming will take a major part
general outline of the
problem to be solved.

in society. We decided to make our school
based around nature and have plants
involved in a modern education. By involving
the students and teaching them at a young
age about the importance of our world and
keeping their bodies healthy, it could be a
start to a new lifestyle.

Research the
problem
Think about ways in
which your
considerations can
be
solved/accommodated
for. E.g. If you
decide that your
school needs space
for increasing
numbers, what are
some ways in which
2 campuses- more space. Buy houses
up to Tyler Street and on the other
side of McColl Street up to Tyler
Street.
Money- in 2089 the average Australian
home will be expensive, so for Holy
Name to buy up to fifteen properties
it would roughly cost 9 million to 11
million dollars. Hopefully, Holy Name
will win the lottery to afford
extensions.

you can create space?

Designing:

Write a
specification
This detailed
description of
the problem
spells out what
the design must
achieve and what
limitations will
affect the final
solution.
Space-With a maximum of three stories and specialist
classes underground, space shouldnt be a problem. Both
campuses will be nearly identical. Buying more land creates
space to build as well as having area for the children to play.

Money-In the next decade teachers wages will be dropped
and prices of school fees will rise in order to afford the new
version of Holy Name. since we are demolishing the school
we could re-use the material.

Time-
The future will have machines that will make building faster
and easier. While the second campus is being built. Classes
will continue as usual and when construction has finished, all
grades will move to the second campus while the original
version of Holy Name is demolished and re-built.

Work out
possible
solutions
Combine the
ideas from
your
investigation
to suggest
several
possible design
solutions.
Sketch several
possibilities on
paper.

Modifying:
List and justify any modifications that you have made.

Write a Report:
Write a report that explains the process you followed to complete your
future school design. Reflect upon all the stages in the process and
justify your work. Discuss the investigating, planning, designing,
evaluating and modifying of your design.
