    JOINT PAIN/SWELLING

    Purpose: To initiate and expedite care from triage for all MEDcare patients based on
    presenting symptoms and agreed upon guidelines.


    Common presenting symptoms sets include:

    Joint pain
    Redness
    Tenderness
    Inability to bear weight or lift
    Swelling
    Angry appearance
    Warmth
    Limited range of motion


    Procedure:

    1. Place patient in procedure room and undress to gown.
    2. Obtain UPT in female of child-bearing age.
    3. Initiate IV.
    4. Draw CBC and BMP.
    5. X-ray involved joint.


    Orders:
    UPT
    IV
    CBC
    BMP
    X-ray affected extremity


    Additional Considerations:
    See Weakness/Fatigue/Malaise Standing Order if accompanied by these symptoms
