PELVIC PAIN

Purpose: To initiate and expedite care from triage for all MEDcare patients based on
presenting symptoms and agreed upon guidelines.


Common presenting symptoms sets include:

Known or suspected STD exposure
Vaginal or penile discharge
Pelvic pain
Painful intercourse
Foul odor
Abdominal pain

Procedure:

1. Place patient in procedure room and have them undress to gown.
2. Obtain UPT in female of child-bearing age.
3. Obtain UA.
4. Set up pelvic exam.
5. Apply drape over patient.
6. Prepare Trichomonas (Trich), Bacterial Vaginosis (BV), and GC
(Gonorrhea/Chlamydia) Swabs

Orders:
UPT
UA
Trich Swab, BV Swab,& GC swab for pelvic set up

Additional Orders:
Ensure Chux pad under patient, especially if experiencing vaginal bleeding
