    THROAT PAIN

    Purpose: To initiate and expedite care from triage for all MEDcare patients based on
    presenting symptoms and agreed upon guidelines.


    Common presenting symptoms sets include:

    Ear Pain
    Sore Throat
    Facial Pressure/Pain
    Pain when swallowing
    Fever
    Rash

    Procedure:

    1. Obtain flu and strep swab in triage. Obtain RSV in patients age 4 or <.
    2. Place patient in exam room.


    Orders:
    Strep
    Flu
    RSV

    Additional Considerations:
    Mono
    Sinus X-ray
    If febrile, treat with Tylenol or Motrin per Fever Standing Order

    Contraindications:
    X-ray in pregnancy
