By Sor Juana Ins de la Cruz

(Juana Ins de Asbaje y Ramrez)

Detente, sombra de mi bien esquivo,
imagen del hechizo que ms quiero,
bella ilusin por quien alegre muero,
dulce ficcin por quien penosa vivo.
Si al imn de tus gracias, atractivo,
sirve mi pecho de obediente acero,
para qu me enamoras lisonjero
si has de burlarme luego fugitivo?
Mas blasonar no puedes, satisfecho,
de que triunfa de m tu tirana:
que aunque dejas burlado el lazo estrecho
que tu forma fantstica cea,
poco importa burlar brazos y pecho
si te labra prisin mi fantasa.

Stop, shadow of my elusive goodness,
image of the charm that I love the most,
for whom I joyfully die, fair illusion,
for whom I heavy exist, dulcet fiction.
If my obedient iron chest is serving
to the magnet of your graces, attractive,
what for are you courting me, flattering,
if you will circumvent me then fugitive?
But you can't be blazoning, contented,
that your tyranny is triumphing over me:
even you're leaving the tight loop eluded
that was belting your fantastic figure,
it doesn't matter to elude arms and chest
if my fantasy is carving to you a prison.
