PostProfessionalAthlecTrainingProgram(MS)
ProgramOverview
I
ndiana State Universitys PP-
ATP has a long standing history
of excellence in Athletic Train-
ing. As the profession has evolved
over the years, we have worked to
create a program that has adapted
with the new age of medicine and to
produce leaders in scholarly practice.
To complement the Core Competen-
cies required of accreditation, our
program strengths include our foci on
evidence based medicine and clinical
teaching, the facilitation of profes-
sional growth through clinical course
work, and the production of scholar-
ship in the profession.

ProgramMission
T
he mission of our post-
professional Masters athlet-
ic training education pro-
gram is to expand critical thinking
and clinical reasoning in applied and
experiential, knowledge through evi-
dence based medicine. Our program
develops scholarly clinicians and
mentors through interprofessional
education, research, community en-
gagement and clinical experiences.

Experience
P
rofessional clinical experi-
ences are an integral part of
post-professional athletic
training education. Students engage
in mentored clinical practice with
guidance from experienced athletic
trainers. Typically, students gain ex-
perience in one of the following set-
tings: college/university, secondary
school, and community outreach.
Assignments are based on past expe-
riences, career goals and program
needs.
Students also gain professional
teaching experience supporting the
CAATE accredited professional pro-
gram. Both structured in-classroom
and clinical teaching experiences
provide students with practice in the
roles of teacher and preceptor.

Research
T
he purpose of the research
experience is to increase the
depth of knowledge in a spe-
cific area of athletic training. Stu-
dents work in collaboration with fac-
ulty and have opportunities to choose
from an array of topics in the profes-
sion. Graduate research is essential
for growth of the student and the pro-
fession of athletic training. Students
are encouraged to submit research for
publication in recognized journals
and may be presented at national and
international conferences.

FinancialResources
S
tudents are eligible for full or
partial tuition waivers and
competitive stipends. Licen-
sure and professional memberships
are financially supported.
