Justin Kim Period Class number #12

My American dream is for everyone to have the ability to have equal opportunities. Many
people are limited by racial and gender stereotypes; for example, some people say some women
are less useful for professional jobs and some areas still are racist to African Americans.
Everyone should have the right to worked out of poverty and live a simple, happy, fulfilled life
with a family. I believe that people should be able to have money but not in a completely
materialistic standpoint of it. Many people although they work hard, are unable to break out of
their social classes and as a result there is a lot of imbalance in the population. I believe the
American dream is to move to this country in hopes of bettering ones and their families along
with helping others as a result of such.
My idea is shared among some westerners but not shared among many others. Some
westerns took taking advantage of the Homestead Act, wanted to gain new land in hopes of
making a decent living and raising their children. Along with that, those people hoped to gain
knowledge thanks to the Morrill Act funded schools; they wanted to live more stable, educated
lives. These western settlers share a similar idea of bettering their and their familys lives.
However, many westerns moved west in hopes of becoming extremely rich from gold and silver
following the discovery of gold, and the Comstock Lode. Like those miners, the land speculators
seem to have hoped to take advantage of the new land to make a lot of money and to become
successful rather than just have enough to for a comfortable life.
