It has been another busy week in Grade 3. The Home Room teachers and support teachers have finalized a wide range of assessments which have given the team varied and valuable information about each individual student. Therefore, on Sunday we can begin spinning across the grade with personalized learning for groups and individuals in Math, Reading and Spelling. We were able to share the Home Learning Timetable with many of you in our Hopes and Dreams meetings on Wednesday. It has also been posted on this site today. We all enjoyed the time discussing both yours and your childs aspirations for this year and goals for further into the future. It is reassuring to know that many of the areas for academic, social and emotional development you highlighted are already firmly embedded in the yearly plan in Grade 3. Thank you to so many parents for taking the time to participate and engage with your childs learning. House Spirit Day brought out many smiling faces (and tired ones towards the end of the day), cheers, chants, banners, flags and colors. It was great to see children from the age of 3 to 14 joining together in the spirit of sharing and collaboration; the experience of working towards common goals with the knowledge it may not always bring a winning place but with perseverance and support there are always rewards. As mentioned the Home Learning program will increase from Sunday with a reading and spelling program in place. To clarify the spelling program we have attached guidelines below. Your child will bring home a spelling journal on Sunday which they use for all spelling activities at home and return to school every Thursday in time for the weekly assessment. We will send the books home again on Thursday so you can see your childs progress from week to week. We have completed Unit 1 of the Everyday Math program and are ready to commence Unit 2 next week. This unit focusses on addition and subtraction using a variety of strategies and tools to solve mathematical problems. In your childs Home Link book there is a Unit 2 Family Letter which we ask you to read in preparation for supporting the learning process at home. We are also still looking for Home Room Parents for Grade 3A and 3B. Ms. Joanne and Grade 3C are delighted that Kareems mum, Rola Saad, offered her services today. We are very grateful and look forward to working together to further enhance the experiences of the students this year.
Thank you and have a relaxing weekend.
