Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
Review for Test Unit 11 Test on EMS,
Star Life, Galaxies
The Reason We Have
Seasons (Earth)
District Writing Day:

District Science, Art and
STEMscopes (multi-day)
Objectives SWBAT:.
Describe
different types
of stars based
on magnitude,
both apparent
and absolute
and that stars
produce their
own light and
heat.
Classify
different types
of stars based
on magnitude
and correctly
place their
position on the
HR Diagram.

SWBAT:.
Recognize that
the sun is a
medium sized
star located at
the edge of the
Milky Way
Galaxy and
that it is many
thousands of
times closer to
earth than any
other star.
Compare and
contrast
different star
types..
Identify and
describe the
types of
galaxies and
their
characteristics.
Use HR
Diagrams to
identify star
magnitude.
Define the
EMS and
describe the
uses of various
types of
electromagneti
c waves.
SWBAT:
Model and
illustrate how the
tiled Earth rotates
on its axis
causing day and
night and
revolves around
the sun causing
the change in
seasons.
Identify
advantages and
limitations of
models such as
size, scale,
properties and
materials.
Use models to
represent aspects
of the natural
world.
Describe the 2
main movements
of Earth through
space, rotation
and revolution.
SWBAT:
Writing
prompt(s): I
have learned
about the
components of
the universe. I
will write about
the
components of
the universe. ..
.

SWBAT:
Create a model to
represent some
aspect the Earth.
Analyze data to
formulate reasonable
explanations and
communicate how a
tilted Earth rotates
on its axis causing
day and night and
revolves around the
sun causing changes
in seasons.
Explanations and
conclusions will be
backed by valid data
and will predict
trends.

District Writing Day:

District Science, Art and

LA EXPLORE: How stars
and elements are
formed and how that
relates to galaxies.
(Young irregular
galaxies have lots of
gas and dust to form
more new stars..)

EXPLAIN:.Students will
create a field guide for
stars, including our
Sun, a supergiant, a
giant, a main sequence
star, and a dwarf star.
Provide a description,
relative age and life
span, luminosity, and
temperature of each
star.

ELABORATE:
Describe how models
such as a Hertzsprung-
Russell diagram can
be used for
classification.

EXPLORE:
Identifying and
classification star sort
where each student
gets to be a star (Ex:
Pollux) and place
themselves on the HR
diagram and describe
their characteristics.

EXPLAIN:Students will
compare and contrast
different star types on
the HR Diagram and
explain how they were
the age, magnitude
and temperature
affects placement.

ELABORATE:

EXPLORE: Watch video

EXPLAIN:

ELABORATE: Students
will fill in their own HR
Diagram and locate the
stars from their table
group. They will discuss
how each stars
characteristics
determines the placement
on their HR Diagram.
How would scientists
could use the HR
Diagram?
