concurrency, and recovery; security.

Course Objectives:
At the end of the class, students should be able to understand the concepts, components, types and
representations of database systems, and how to design, query and program a database system with
provided information. Students will get familiar with a specific database management system (DBMS),
create one or more applications and query the database.

Course Prerequisite: CS 5343 (Algorithm Analysis and Data Structures)

Grading:
Student’s grade is based on the following four parts:

1. Homework: 20%
2. Project: 25%
3. Midterm exam 25%
4. Final exam 30%

Grading curve is based on the following table:

A 90% - 100%
B 80% - 89%
C 70% - 79%
D 60% - 69%
F 0% - 59%

A final curve will be decided based on the grades of the class. Department guideline stipulates that the
graduate class GPA should be between 3.2 and 3.6
