It is important for each students learning that we all follow the Stony Creek CARES guidelines
and complete our homework assignments. Each week in 5
th
grade, every student will have the opportunity
to participate in a cooperative grade level activity. This will help ensure that everyone has a safe and
productive learning experience and has accepted the increased responsibility that is important in 5
th

grade.
If a student should fail to follow our C.A.R.E.S. code of conduct or miss a homework assignment,
they will receive a check. (Each teacher will keep a private list of students and their behaviors.) If a
student receives 5 checks during a week, they will not be allowed to participate in the cooperative grade
level activity on Friday. During that time, they will be asked to write about the behavior choices they
made that week, or what strategy they will use to complete their homework for the following week. That
writing will then be sent home and will need to be signed by a parent.
If a student receives 3 checks during a week, a warning will be sent home to indicate that they
are close to losing their privilege to participate in the weekly activity.
We appreciate your support with this initiative. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel
free to contact us. Thank you for taking the time to read and understand this letter.
Sincerely,
The Fifth Grade Teachers
