Assignment 1: Information Literacy

2.Article Summary:
Apple has made many contributions to the expansion of technology throughout the
last couple of years. One of its major successes in technology was the I-Pod classic,
which made tech history when introduced. Sadly, the latest news relates to the farewell of
the I-Pod classic. In the CNN article Goodbye, IPod Classic Doug Gross states that the
I-pods farewell was not a surprise. He states, The signs had been there for a while.
Apple hadnt updated the classic since 2009 and had quit mentioning it, even at iPod-
specific events. This clearly shows that Apple had been planning the iPod classics
farewell all along. The author also mentions how many fans of the IPod classic are
disappointed because it has been one of the greatest examples of the advancement in
technology. Overall, many knew it was time to say goodbye to a great device.
3. Search Engine Comparison:
The topic I searched was IPod Classic news, I searched in three different search
engines Google, Bing, and Yahoo Search. If I had to give a grade to each search engine I
would give Google and Bing an A. They both provided the most recent news related to
the topic, they also had images and videos, which helps capture more attention. Both
Google and Bing have a similar setup, which makes it easy to understand. On the other
hand we have Yahoo search, lacks creativity and when I searched it gave me new that are
not as recent as the ones offered by the other search engines. So in any case my last
choice would be Yahoo search.
4.TRAAP:
Time- The article was written September 10, 2014 and was updated September 11, 2014.

Relevance- Yes, it relates to my topic because it gives me the latest news for the IPod
classic.
Authority- The author is Jason Proctor, and I believe he is qualified to write about the
topic because he is part of the CBC News and because he shares his personal experience
with the topic.
Accurate- The information is trustworthy because its on a news website and it talks about
the topic and how it made so much significant change.
Purpose- This article was written to inform the people that the IPod classic has been
discontinued and that it was a great device while it lived although many new things have
made the IPod outdated, but thats reality in the tech world.
5.Scholarly Journal Articles:
I used Proquest.com and the keywords I searched were IPod classic. I used ProQuest
central because it has mostly any topic in the database while the other ones I tried did not
have anything related to my topic.
6. The articles I found in the databases and the Internet was helpful, informing, and
interesting. When we compare them I find that when I searched on the internet they had a
variety of results and were all easy of access, but when searched on the database if was
really hard to find a related topic to my keywords. Although the material found on the
database are more limited I feel they provided me with better and more concrete
information all in one journal. Internet search are less time consuming than database
search are which can cause frustration in many cases. Although I feel that when we
compare authority both have equal authority but database have far more credibility. At
the end both are helpful sources with pros and cons.
