AKOMA is an Anti Bullying
Campaign that was founded in
the year 2013 by Ebony Willis
and Amber Bentley. Our
campaign is based on the
African Word "Akoma" which
means "the heart." The goals
of this campaign are as
followed:

-Raise awareness in the
different types of bullying.
-Significantly lower the
amount of bullying.
-Show beginning signs and
actions to watch out for in a
victim
-Offer various forms of help
for bullies and list websites
that also contribute to the
fight against bullying.

Youth Bullying:
56% of students in K4-12th grade
have witnessed this as a problem in
school. The top years for youth
bullying are 4th-8th grade. 1 out of
every 10 students who drop out of
school do so because of bullying in
school.

LGBTQ Bullying:
This acronym stands for lesbian, gay,
bisexual, transgendered, and those
who identify as queer. 9 out of 10
LGBTQ individuals experience bullying
and harassment both at school and
online. These children are bullied 2-3
times as much as others.

Adult Bullying:
Adults aim to make someone else feel
inferior through humiliation and
mocking. 1 in 6 adults suffer from
some form of adult bullying. The
workplace is where most of this
occurs.
Cyber Bullying:
Bullies use electronic devices such as
computers, cell phones, or tablets to
harass another individuals. Social
media websites and chat rooms have
the most recorded accounts of cyber
bullying. 35% of kids have been
threatened online. 1 in 5 have had it
happen more than once.

Signs to Look Out For:
-change in route to school
-aggressive, anxious, moody, sad
-unexplained cuts, bruises, or bumps
-repetitive "loss" of money
-withdrawn from others
-threats of suicide or dying
Bullying is intentional aggressive
behavior, that is NOT limited to a
specific age group. It is physical or
verbal harassment and involves an
imbalance of power.
Over 3.2 million students are victims
of bullying each year. 1 in 4 teachers
see nothing wrong with bullies. About
160,000 students skip school daily
because they are victims of bullying.
This behavior increases in elementary
school, peaks in middle school, and
declines in high school. Verbal abuse,
will always remain constant.
