Comparison of structures between the Qiangtang basin northern Tibet, China, and the Tethyan basin, Western Asia, and their petroleum prospect evaluation. Geological Bulletin of China, 2005, 24 (6) 564-569 Abstract; The Qingsang basin is one lige Paleozoie~Cenosore bain besides the Tarim, Qaida and Janggar basins in wesem Chin. The basin swarm of the West Tethys bel, which is the riche pemoleum~besing region in the world preseady, has 2 similar tectonic sting to the Qiangtng bain. On the basis of an analysis of the formation and tectonic evo lution of peoleum-bearing bsins in the Tethys belt, the gelogcal conditions for petroleum accumulsdon in basins are dix cussed, By 2 comparative amass, the author: think tht che formation and evoludon of the Qlangung bain are similar co those of the Afghanistan masif in the West Tethys segment and its Juasic simenton and evoltion and tectonic fame work are similar o those of the Lacum basin in Central As, The Qiangang basin has the basic conditions for pevoleum formation. However, the Qangung basin is close to the Himalayan fld bel, and since the Neogene the bain has been re- worked stongly and nappe-thnating, on the one hand, genented strict maps but, on the other hand, caused source rocks to be more mtu which is unfavorable for petrolcum preservation. Because of these factors, the Qiangtang basin is markedly different from the petroleum~bearing basins in Middle Fast where petroleum is accumulated in considerable amount. So, we should look for areas with both favonble oil~generating conditions and preservation conditions in petroleum explo- ration of the Qjangtang basin.
