Declaration of Something

Final

I, Ana Reynoso, in order to eliminate world hunger, poverty and death by preventable diseases
and therefore improve the life of all human beings, hereby establish the following Declaration of
Freedom from willfully living in a society where self interest has been accepted as reality.
When in the course of ones life it becomes a necessity to question the values of their society, it
is required that they declare the causes that have lead them to be dubious of it and clearly declare
why they hope to achieve a better society.
I hold these truths to be universally evident: that poverty, inequality and ignorance are all caused
by living a life of self interest, that mankind functions best as a community and that living a
fulfilling life requires the acknowledgment and pursuit of our passions. Whenever our society
becomes destructive of these universal truths, it is my right to, as an individual, remove myself
from the popular and widely accepted lifestyle and attempt, instead, to live a life that is funded
upon these universal truths.
By self interest, I understand a life where self comfort is priority. A life that displays a lot of
narcissism and arrogance and willfully ignores those in need and opportunities to give back. This
is directly connected to inequality; in a society where there is no cooperation, only individualism,
there is always going to be a want for more and energy will be spent on beating the next person
over, as opposed to helping each other. This blinds us to the fact that while there are those living
with excessive amounts of money, there are those that don't even have the basics needed for
survival, like food, water and shelter. When we focus all our energy and abilities on ourselves,
we waste one of our most precious gifts as human beings, the ability to help each other.
There is one very apparent method of curing this society of self interest, this being to supply
everyone with food, shelter and healthcare. Let everyone start on common ground so that energy
can be focused on pursuing a job that fulfills everyone's passions as opposed to working for the
monetary gain that will allow bills to get payed. Remove the idea that we are the most important
things in the world and give people the opportunity to do what they really love so they can see
that we are all a part of a big community and life has a lot more meaning than just our own
personal happiness.
